Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe fell to the ground bleeding during a speech, according to NHK on Thursday. NHK said gunshots were heard at the scene. Abe was shot twice in the left chest, Fuji News reported. According to Kyodo News, Abe lost consciousness after the attack and fell into a state of “cardiopulmonary arrest.”

According to Japan TV, police said Abe was shot in the back with a shotgun.
