US President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the White House on Wednesday, calling the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school "another massacre" in the United States, CNN reported Thursday.

 

Biden said it was "suffocating" to see a child lose his life like "a piece of my soul being torn out."  He also said something must be done about the shootings.

 

The death toll from a shooting rampage at an elementary school in Texas has risen to 21, including 18 children.  The incident is currently under investigation.

 

It was the deadliest school shooting since sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012.  

 

In honor of the victims of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, U.S. President Joe Biden said the U.S. flag will fly at half-staff at the White House until sunset on May 28, as well as on all public buildings, military bases and ships, overseas locations and embassies and consulates.

 

White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre tweeted that Biden had been briefed on the school shooting.  Biden will address the nation at 20:15 A.M. Edt (8:15 p.m. Beijing Time) on Thursday after returning from Asia.

According to CNN, the shooting is at least the 30th shooting at a kindergarten or elementary school in the United States in 2022.  This is at least the 39th shooting on a college campus, after a total of at least 10 people were killed and 51 wounded.

 

After the robb Elementary School shooting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted his condolences to the victims.

 

"My heart breaks for everyone affected by today's horrific shooting in Texas," Trudeau said.  My thoughts go out to the parents, families, friends, classmates and colleagues whose lives have been changed forever -- and Canadians mourn with you and are with you."
